We are Guillermo and Agustin Fracalossi. After four generations of our family farming yerba mate in Misiones, Argentina, we started Obera to change the way it is taken.
Four generations of mate
Our family has grown and lived yerba mate in Misiones, in the north of Argentina, for four generations. It is the drink we were raised on and the work the generations before us built their lives around.
We grew up inside that tradition. We also saw how little the way people drink mate had changed, and how the ritual of the gourd, as loved as it is, does not fit how most people live today.
So we started Obera, to modernise how mate is taken and to make what it does for your body easy to reach, without the gourd, the bombilla or hot water always on hand.
For centuries, mate across Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay has meant a single gourd and bombilla, passed slowly from hand to hand. It is one of the oldest drinking rituals in Latin America, and we have real respect for it.
Obera takes a different route. We wrap yerba mate into a bag that drops straight into a cup, hot or iced, so its steady energy and antioxidants fit an ordinary day. It keeps what matters about mate and leaves the ceremony behind.
